How We Raise Our Bees

At Stillwater Natural Farm, our beekeeping philosophy is simple: work with the bees, not against them. We follow a more natural approach inspired by traditional methods and guided by principles from Keeping Bees with a Smile, allowing our colonies to live and function as closely as possible to how they were designed.

Our bees are kept in Layens horizontal hives, which provide a stable, insulated environment that mimics the natural conditions bees prefer. This style of hive allows the colony to build its comb freely and maintain its own internal organization, reducing stress and supporting overall hive health.

Rather than forcing rapid expansion or maximum production, we focus on strong, resilient colonies. We limit вмешծ intervention and allow the bees to follow their natural rhythms—building comb, raising brood, and storing honey at their own pace. This results in healthier bees and a more balanced ecosystem within the hive.

We are also intentional about minimizing plastic exposure throughout the entire process. From the hive structure to honey handling, we prioritize natural materials wherever possible to ensure the purity and integrity of the honey you bring home.

Our bees forage on a diverse range of local plants, contributing to both the health of the land and the unique flavor of our honey. Because of this, each harvest reflects the season, the soil, and the surrounding environment.
